Beechwoods Road

The Beechwoods Road Association was concerned about erosion issues identified by the 2023 Watershed Survey and partnered with TLEA to obtain a 319 Federal Grant help deal with:

  • Improperly shaped ditches along side the common road
  • Undersized culverts
  • Overgrown Outlets
  • Lack of detention areas to manage larger storm water volumes

In the Summer of 2025, major construction included:

  • Reshaping roadside ditch and installing check dams
  • Increasing the diameter of the culvert
  • Installing multiple plunge pools
  • Elevating the road in deficient areas

Town of Otisfield

The 2023 Watershed Survey identified 29 problematic sites on town roads, prompting the Town of Otisfield to partner with TLEA to obtain 319 Federal Grant funding to remediate erosion issues on Shore Road and Williams Way, including:

  • Changing the pitch of Shore Road so water will run to the upland side of the road
  • Installing sediment pools and turnouts to mitigate gully erosion

Agassiz Village

Agassiz Village was concerned about an erosion issue on the camp’s property that was identified in the 2023 Watershed Survey – specifically noting that a 150 X 20 foot trail was heavily eroded and carrying runoff and sediment from the paved road to the lake; the trail showing bare soil and exposed roots with rills forming.

By partnering with TLEA, improvements were made including:

  • Adding base gravel to the path
  • Installation of a new culvert
  • Installation of a plunge pool and culvert inlet
  • Armoring the outlet

These improvements prevented further surface water from entering the lake and provided a safer path for the children at camp.
