10 Thompson Lake property owners, from all four towns asked TLEA’s Youth Conservation Corp to help deal with erosion problems on their property during Summer 2026. This season we hired 3 new crew members and had a crew member from previous years return as a crew leader, along with our project coordinator, Josh Wright. These projects play an important role in reducing erosion, protecting water quality, stabilizing shoreland areas, and preserving the health and beauty of Thompson Lake for future generations. TLEA is proud of the work accomplished through the YCC program and grateful to the crew members, volunteers, landowners, and funding partners who made it possible. With funding from a federal Section 319 grant, TLEA was able to cover a portion of the YCC program costs over the last 2 years, helping to cover labor costs for participating landowners.
The YCC works under advisement from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and focuses on a handful of specific erosion techniques. These include, rain gardens, vegetated buffers, infiltration trenches, water diverters, erosion control mulch and dripline infiltration trenches.
